The project has a height of 138 meters and it was called the Guangzhou Circle hosting the headquarters of the Guangdong Hongda Xingye Group and GDPE Guangdong Plastic Exchange companies. The concept is to create a structure that will immediately be perceived as a native Chinese landmark according to the designers, through the use of a closed and central structure rather than the typical western skyscraper.
The structure has 33 floors and the circle’s diameter is of 50 meters. The proximity to the water transforms the shape into the number eight when it is reflected in the river and this number is a lucky one in the Chinese culture.
The building is inspired by the iconic jade discs and feng shui numerological tradition, the jade disk being the royal symbol of ancient Chinese dynasty. The walls were clad in copper plates and the side walls are broken into glazed rectilinear boxes.
